You're probably going to lose a lot of relationships when you leave work. That's perfectly normal because they're work relationships, and when you retire, you leave the career behind, and with it, most of those relationships. It is a little jarring, though, because you're accustomed to having like this sort of wide, expansive group of people that you genuinely like, that you interact with every day, and once you retire, that gets narrowed way down. Sometimes some of your work relationships end up being personal relationships, but most of them don't, and for good reason. They just really never were. But you have to prepare yourself emotionally for having that number of relationships reduce really quickly and in a big way. And if you're prepared for it and you just remind yourself from time to time, maybe I feel lonely because I'm having far fewer relationships than I used to have. Maybe I'm having a lot of interactions right now, and maybe there's nothing significantly wrong. I'm just going to need to adjust to this new reality. So just be prepared. When you retire, you lose a lot of relationships.
